The NSO today published the preliminary results of the 2021 National Census. According to the preliminary results Ħal Balzan’s population today stands at 4,774. This is an increase from the 4,101 back in 2011 and a significant increase from the 1,313 back in 1921. 2,344 identified themselves as male whilst 2,430 identified themselves as female. The population per squared kilometer (population density) stands at 7,998 which is significantly higher than neighbouring towns Ħal Lija (2,887) and Ħ’Attard (1,848) but lower than Birkirkara (9,411) and lower than the most densily populated town in Malta, Tas-Sliema (15,167).
1,139 of Ħal Balzan residents are aged over 65 whilst 622 are aged between 0 and 14. Ħal Balzan’s average age is thus 44.4. 3,949 of Ħal Balzan residents are Maltese citizens whilst 825 residents are citizens of other countries.
On a national level the biggest population is that of St. Paul’s Bay at 32,042 followed by Birkirkara at 25,807 and Mosta at 23,482. The smallest population is that of Mdina at 193.
