Ħal Balzan in numbers according to the National Census

The NSO today published the preliminary results of the 2021 National Census. According to the preliminary results Ħal Balzan’s population today stands at 4,774. This is an increase from the 4,101 back in 2011 and a significant increase from the 1,313 back in 1921. 2,344 identified themselves as male whilst 2,430 identified themselves as female. The population per squared kilometer (population density) stands at 7,998 which is significantly higher than neighbouring towns Ħal Lija (2,887) and Ħ’Attard (1,848) but lower than Birkirkara (9,411) and lower than the most densily populated town in Malta, Tas-Sliema (15,167).

1,139 of Ħal Balzan residents are aged over 65 whilst 622 are aged between 0 and 14. Ħal Balzan’s average age is thus 44.4. 3,949 of Ħal Balzan residents are Maltese citizens whilst 825 residents are citizens of other countries.

On a national level the biggest population is that of St. Paul’s Bay at 32,042 followed by Birkirkara at 25,807 and Mosta at 23,482. The smallest population is that of Mdina at 193.

Mayor meets Miss Teen Balzan

The Mayor Angelo Micallef today had the pleasure of meeting Ms. Amy Sciberras (Miss Teen Balzan in the Miss Teen Model Of The Mediterranean 2022 contest. A visit to wonderful Sicily

As part of the its monthly routine of outings the Hal Balzan Local Council, specifically Deputy Mayor Mary Louise Briffa, organized a day trip to Sicily. A group of Balzan residents had the opportunity to visit the wonderful city of Vittoria in Sicily along with the famous flea market of Vittoria. The group also got to experience a typical Sicilian lunch at a famous establishment for agriculture tourism.

The group was accompanied by the Mayor Angelo Micallef, Deputy Mayor Mary Louise Briffa and Councilors Stephen Gatt and Oliver De Gaetano.

The famous Kaxxa comes to Balzan!

What can be more pleasant than going to the village square to enjoy the feast and the summer weather?

And in the blistering heat what’s more pleasant than a nice cold drink? But what about the bottle?

During the feast weekend a net box where one can dispose of plastic bottles shall be placed next to the gazebo in the playing field. The collected bottles will then be recycled. This initiative is being carried out together with NGO Żibel.

Installation of new cigarette bins around the village

The Local Council has installed a number of new cigarette bins around the village; particularly in areas which are more likely to suffer from the problem of discarded cigarette butts. The aim of these new bins is to facilitate matters for smokers such that it will be easier for smokers to discard their cigarette butt appropriately.

The Local Council wishes to thank everyone in advance for their cooperation in using these bins appropriately. With a little but of effort by everyone we can help keep Hal Balzan cleaner.
